Wow! What an experience it is to attend the RWA annual conference. It was wonderful to see DC again. The elegant city brings back so many fabulous memories. I dated my husband there, where he kissed me on the Capitol steps no less. How romantic is that!
There was so much to do and see, new friends to make, and of course 2 agent pitches to get through without breaking into a cold sweat. Thankfully, they went smoothly and I now have to polish my manuscript and submit partials to both. Given that is what I had hoped would happen, it was a good trip. The box full of free books I shipped home separately also made it a good trip. Getting to know several chapter buddies better also made it a good trip! And making some new writing and critiquing friends made it a very good trip.
Still, I learned that when at conference, go and do with different people so that you mingle more. Because it was my first time, I found myself hanging with the same folks. Finally, I felt comfortable enough to go off on my own and meet some new people. That's when the trip turned into more fun because I enjoy making new friends and acquaintances!
So, tell me what you learned at the last big conference or meeting you attended. What would you do differently?
